ARL RELEASES BERTHING OPTIMIZATION TOOL FOR CONTAINER TERMINALS
ARL Consulting releases an add-on module for Terminal Operating Systems, which optimizes vessels positioning on a berth and decrease container handling equipment milage on the yard.
ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS, June 7, 2007 – ARL Consulting announces the release of the ARL Berthing Optimization Tool which calculates optimal vessels’ position on a berth, minimizing mileage of container handling equipment (CHE) on the yard. The tool can be deployed at marine terminals with a busy quay side, high CHE fuel costs, and equipped with a Terminal Operating System (TOS). The tool can be requested from ARL’s portal for shipping solutions, arl-shipping.com.
ARL Berthing Optimization Tool reads yard and vessels data from the TOS and allows the operator to create a number of scenarios of vessels’ positioning by a zooming drag-and-drop interface. The tool handles quay unavailability zones, supports manual change of ships arrival and departure time, manual proforma vessel calls, and detection of berth clashes. At any time operator can see CHE mileage calculation for both current and ideal scenarios.
The architecture of the tool is TOS-safe: It works as a desktop application without producing any additional load on the TOS, neither affecting its performance and stability. ARL Berthing Optimization Tool is available for selected TOSs, however the solution architecture allows it to be connected to any XML-data source.
